The Basin Community Committee (BCC) is an independent advisory committee to the Murray–Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) and the Murray–Darling Basin Ministerial Council (MinCo). We publish communiques from the BCC, as well as open letters from the BCC to Australian Government ministers.
It is established under the Water Act 2007 (Cth) to ensure that the voices of the diverse communities across the Basin are heard at the highest level. The Water Act thereby acknowledged that any Plan no matter how scientifically credible or politically popular, would fail unless it met the needs of the communities it is designed to serve. Communiques from BCC meetings have been published since April 2018.
