Last month, Murray–Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) Chief Executive Andrew McConville, Regional Engagement Officer Lucy Sevil, and Authority member Roseanne Healy led the fourth MDBA tour of 2024.

Each month we highlight the important work our Regional Engagement Officers (REOs) do out in Basin communities. From building relationships, to educating future Basin leaders, our REOs are the trusted faces of the Murray–Darling Basin Authority.

Recently the Murray–Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) took part in a field trip for new Lower Balonne Roundtable (LBRT) members.

Based at St George in south-west Queensland, Regional Engagement Officer (REO) Lucy Sevil covers the Condamine–Balonne catchment – one of the largest catchment areas in the Murray–Darling Basin.

This water resource plan is the prevailing management plan for the surface water resources in the Murrumbidgee water resource plan (WRP) area. The plan was accredited by the Australian Government Minister as being consistent with the Basin Plan and commenced on 29 February 2024.

Basin Plan implementation and the Restoring our Rivers Bill were topics of conversation at the recent meeting of the Basin Community Committee.

This water resource plan is the prevailing management plan for the groundwater resources in the Murrumbidgee Alluvium water resource plan (WRP) area. The plan was accredited by the Australian Government Minister as being consistent with the Basin Plan and commenced on 9 November 2023.

We recently spent a day with St Mary’s College students to provide them with an interactive session on water sharing and management in the Basin.

Funds will help support important cultural activities for students of the isolated community of Goodooga.
