The Authority proposes several changes to how groundwater is managed under the Basin Plan.
The proposed groundwater amendments stem from a number of drivers. These include:
- the outcomes of groundwater reviews specified in the Basin Plan and resulting negotiations between Authority and Basin states; and
- requests by Basin states to align the water planning boundaries in the Basin Plan with their state water management plans.
There are three main areas in which changes to the Basin Plan groundwater provisions are proposed: SDLs and mandatory local management rules in the review areas, the groundwater compliance method and groundwater unit boundaries.
Information on the proposed groundwater amendments can be found in the Plain English Summary of the proposed amendments.
