This is in accordance with the requirements of Section 13.14 of the Murray–Darling Basin Plan, part 3 Clause 139(b) of the National Partnership Agreement on Implementation Water Reform in the Murray–Darling Basin, and Part 9 Clause (iv) of the Murray–Darling Basin Plan Implementation Agreement 2013.
Each year the Basin governments report on how they are implementing the Basin Plan. This includes reporting on:
- the sustainable diversion limit adjustment mechanism
- the constraints management strategy
- working with communities
- developing water resource plans
- water trading
- environmental watering
- maintaining water quality.
Please note that the Basin Government reports do not represent the views of the MDBA.

In 2017, the MDBA completed the first 5-year Basin Plan Evaluation.
