The Drought Emergency Framework for Lakes Alexandrina and Albert provides guidance to manage the Lower Lakes during times of extreme drought. It is based upon the latest scientific and operational knowledge and focusses on avoiding or mitigating the negative impacts associated with low water levels.

Following the adoption of Schedule E by the Council for operationalising, monitoring and reporting on Cap implementation, this audit was conducted in line with the requirements of Clause 15 of the Schedule. At 4133 GL, diversion from rivers in the Murray–Darling Basin was the lowest since 1957 reflecting continuing severe drought conditions throughout most of the Basin.
