** The Lower Lakes are not a consumptive storage for South Australia. Water in the lakes is a combination of South Australia entitlement flow, volume for dilution to reduce salinity and to mitigate the impact of seawater intrusion. At times, environmental water may be used in the lakes to enhance environmental outcomes and to maintain Barrage releases. Releases of water at the barrages are closely managed to optimise environmental and water quality outcomes, consistent with the Murray–Darling Basin Plan.
