Identifying locations and timing of water extractions in the Barwon–Darling using remote sensing data

A technical report of the Australian Geoscience Data Cube (AGDC) pilot project. Assessing suitability of remote sensing data to support policy and management decisions.

The study used AGDC false colour imagery data to test if the AGDC could:

  • identify the location and timing of water extractions
  • locate and map farm storages
  • observe changes to storages over time
  • map and measure crop areas
  • observe changes to crop areas over time
  • observe other irrigation and other on-farm applications.
