The World Water Forum is the largest international gathering in the water sector, giving participants the opportunity to share their knowledge, experience, and practices with international communities and host countries.
This year’s forum, saw thousands of attendees from governments, multilateral institutions, academia, civil society and the private sector sharing knowledge based on this year’s theme of ‘Water for Shared Prosperity’.
Several Australian Government representatives attended the event, engaging in high-level conversations with international counterparts on the importance of water management in a changing climate.
MDBA Executive Director, Basin Plan, Tim Goodes, was part of the 25-person Australian Government delegation, along with representatives from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Commonwealth Scientific Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).
“The World Water Forum is an important event for us to showcase the work of the MDBA and the Australian Government in water management on a world stage,” said Mr Goodes.
“The opportunity to network with and learn from water experts from all over the world and hear about their approaches to challenging water management issues is of particular importance for us, given the Basin Plan Review.”
Mr Goodes participated in high-level panel discussions on sustainable water scarcity management, water information systems and public participation in water management.
Australia also had an exhibition booth at the forum where Mr Goodes gave an overview of Murray–Darling Basin water management and the Basin Plan.
The next World Water Forum will be in held in Saudi Arabi in 2027, focusing on Seawater Desalination Technology.
