Built by the BoM, the portal is a partnership between BoM, the Murray–Darling Basin Authority, the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment and Basin state governments.
Launched in June 2021, the portal provides a central source of water information for Basin communities, businesses, water licence holders, recreational users and policy makers.
The updated portal map provides the user with a powerful search by town, river, catchment, current location and water storage.
Other improvements include greater transparency and access to information on the Basin’s water availability, allocation volumes, water take, water trade, prices, weather and climate, removing duplication and enhancing efficiency for users.
The portal project is being rolled out in stages, with 5 major versions released over 3 years so users can provide feedback about additional information they want to see. Over the next 2 years, the BoM will make updates and additional features based on user testing.
Version 1 of the portal was released early in the design process so that water information users can provide feedback. Version 2 is scheduled for release in mid-2022, incorporating user feedback.
