Since commencing in July 2021, the MDBA has hosted 3 rounds of community forums with more than 100 community members participating in online discussions and workshops.
A key outcome has been the opportunity for community members to help shape what the MDBA will be monitoring and reporting on over the coming years.
Through these forums, the MDBA has:
- sought assistance in designing a monitoring program that will deliver value for communities and complement and build on what is already known
- identified a suite of potential monitoring projects to improve understanding of the social, economic, cultural, environmental and hydrological conditions of the Basin.
Future priorities
In 2022, the focus will be on bringing topics and areas of importance and interest to forum members.
Topics of interest for discussion in 2022 include:
- future climate challenges
- progress in evaluating the Basin Plan
- water quality and salinity.
The community forums are made up of volunteer participants from across the Basin with an interest in:
- the environment
- agriculture
- climate
- natural resource management.
