It’s part of the Australian Government’s 4-year Murray–Darling Water and Environment Research Program (MD–WERP) that includes projects across the themes of climate adaptation, environmental outcomes, social, economic and cultural outcomes, and hydrology.
Since the program kicked off 18 months ago, research is now well underway that will translate into real-world improvements for Basin communities. These achievements were highlighted in the 2021–22 annual update that tracks the progress of individual projects and program administration.
A key event showcasing the work underway was the annual MD–WERP Symposium, which in 2022 brought together more than 150 researchers, policy makers, and key agency representatives.
MD–WERP is a program administered by the MDBA and funded by a $20 million Australian Government investment and co-contributions by the CSIRO and La Trobe University.
