MDBA chair Neil Andrew said Ms Madden was an excellent appointment and would bring valuable experience and knowledge to the role.
"Susan has actively contributed to important discussion on basin matters for several years, with a particular focus on the northern basin," Mr Andrew said.
"The strength of Susan’s background in agriculture and natural resources management will be highly valued as the MDBA continues the important task of implementing the Basin Plan in the coming years."
Ms Madden will join Neil Andrew (chair), Phillip Glyde (chief executive), Professor Barry Hart, Dianne Davidson and George Warne on the six-member Authority.
"I would also like to thank outgoing Authority member Ms Diana Gibbs, whose impressive contribution and dedication to the Authority for more than four years has been greatly appreciated," Mr Andrew said.
The six members of the Murray–Darling Basin Authority have a breadth of expertise and experience in water, economics, the environment, natural resource management and agriculture. Several advisory committees support the Authority's work.
