Mitta Mitta Flow Advice – 23 August 2022

Landholders and river users, including pumpers, on the Mitta Mitta River are advised to take into account the forecast releases of water from Dartmouth Dam and make any necessary adjustment to their river activities.

Published: 23 August 2022

From 5 August 2022 MDBA has undertaken airspace operations at Dartmouth Dam. Releases from Dartmouth Dam have targeted up to channel capacity at Tallandoon (3.4 m).

Overnight rain and subsequent tributary inflows may result in the river level at Tallandoon temporarily exceeding 3.4 m from this afternoon (23 August). It is expected that any potential flows above channel capacity will be short-lived.

It is anticipated that over the coming weeks flows up to channel capacity will continue to be targeted. At this stage releases from Dartmouth continue to be through the power station, although flows over the spillway are possible with continued rainfall events.

Please note system conditions may change over the coming days and weeks. Another flow advice will be issued as release requirements change.

Check the Bureau of Meteorology to receive the latest weather information including warnings, river conditions and rainfall in your area.

Landholders and river users on the Mitta Mitta are advised to regularly check the current flows and forecasts on the MDBA website for more information on releases from Dartmouth Dam. Summary information about the River Murray system is available in the River Murray weekly report.

If you are observing bank erosion around key assets on your property, as a result of the higher river flows, please call the North-East Catchment Management Authority.  They implement a riparian program in conjunction with the MDBA.
