MDBA welcomes new Authority Chair, Sir Angus Houston

Published: 8 August 2020

We warmly welcome the appointment of Air Chief Marshal Sir Angus Houston AK, AFC (Ret'd) as the Chair of the Murray–Darling Basin Authority.

This is a significant announcement for our organisation.

The MDBA works collaboratively with all Basin governments to oversee management of the Murray–Darling river system, the greatest rivers in Australia.

Sir Angus has served the nation in several leadership roles, and his well–honed strategic skills will help focus effort towards a healthy working Basin managed in the national interest.

Australia is the driest inhabited continent in the world, water management is complex and contested, with many competing interests.

Sir Angus' extensive experience defending Australia and bringing different interests together to work towards a common goal means he is well–placed to lead our agency for the next stage of implementation ahead.

We look forward to working with Sir Angus in the coming years and continue to work towards a healthy river system for all Australians.
