MDBA board meets in Albury today

Published: 2 May 2017

Today the Murray–Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) board met in Albury to discuss Basin Plan implementation and talk through some local issues with key stakeholders in the Albury/Wodonga community.

MDBA Chief Executive, Phillip Glyde, said it was a productive meeting and all the better for being in a regional location.

"The board discussed a range of topics including Basin Plan amendments, water resource planning, sustainable division limits, and the 2017 Basin evaluation," Mr Glyde said.

Mr Glyde reemphasised the MDBA's commitment to increasing its regional presence and links with Basin communities.

"Our recently announced regionalisation plan continues to be implemented, with the Adelaide and Toowoomba accommodation now confirmed.

"We are currently considering the best office location for Albury/Wodonga, and we are looking forward to locking that in soon.

"We're continuing to consult with MDBA staff about voluntary relocation opportunities. At this early stage, I'm pleased to see staff showing strong interest in opportunities in the regional offices," Mr Glyde said.

"In Albury/Wodonga we also have a Regional Engagement Officer. This is a new role and is all about increasing our day-to-day links with communities on the ground.

"It was also great to hear reports from the Basin Community Committee Chair, Rory Treweeke, and NSW Department of Primary Industries, Deputy Director General (Water), Gavin Hanlon.

"The Albury/Wodonga community has a significant and historical role in running the River Murray.

"And in reflecting this, I'm also pleased to release River stories online—it features the people of the Basin, their lives and their links with the rivers. This is all about showing Australians what the Murray–Darling contributes to Australia and why it's one of our national treasures.
