Murray–Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) Acting Executive Director of River Management, Angus Paton, said the planned repairs were required to ensure the proper functioning of Euston Weir.
“In order to repair damage to the weir, it will be necessary to draw down the weir pool approximately 1.3 metres below full supply level,” Mr Paton said.
“While the repairs are not expected to have significant or prolonged impacts for users, we do suggest users top up their tanks and storages prior to the work being undertaken.
“Work is planned to commence 18 September and is expected to take a few days. Once repairs are complete, refilling of the pool will commence.
"There may also be some temporary impacts for local landholders while the pool is lowered, which may result in some pumps temporarily sitting out of the water.
"We thank the local community for their patience as we undertake these essential works and apologise for any inconvenience caused by the lower river level during this time."
WaterNSW General Manager Regional Operations South, Ben Coffey, said river pumpers, boat operators and other river users were encouraged to take changed water levels into account when planning their activities.
“We remind anyone who is out on a boat to be mindful that the river upstream of the weir is significantly lower than usual,” said Mr Coffey.
“We expect that access through Lock 15 will continue to be available through this period.”
The MDBA works in cooperation with the Basin states to ensure the ongoing maintenance and improvement of weirs and locks along the River Murray.
WaterNSW has collaborated with the local community in preparation for these repairs and will issue further advice if these plans change.
